Hey RC fan ! If you’re anything like me, you probably know the classic struggle of small-scale trailing: you find the perfect outdoor spot, you’re having a blast crawling over rocks, and then… beep beep. The low-voltage alarm goes off after just 15 minutes.
We all hate battery anxiety. But recently, I got my hands on the new JXC LR1801, a 1/18 scale off-road rig that claims to solve this exact problem. The box boasts a massive 50-minute operation time. I was skeptical, so last weekend, I packed it up and took it out to the local woods for a real-world test. Let me tell you, this little rig completely blew my mind.
First Impressions: The Perfect Backpack Companion
Before we hit the dirt, let’s talk about the rig itself. Measuring exactly 26.5 x 12 x 14.6 cm, the LR1801 is the perfect 1/18 size. It’s small enough to easily toss into a backpack, but large enough to handle actual outdoor terrain like roots, gravel, and grass.
It comes in four awesome colors: Gray, Green, Blue, and Yellow. I went with the Green one, and it looks incredibly scale out in the wild.
The Trail Test: A 50-Minute Marathon
Alright, let’s get to the meat of the test. Under the hood, this rig runs on a 7.4V 380mAh battery. Now, 380mAh might not sound huge on paper, but the power efficiency of this car is pure magic.
I turned on the 2.4G remote, set it down on the trail, and started walking. With a top speed of 9 km/h, the LR1801 isn’t designed to be a crazy basher doing backflips. Instead, it’s a dedicated trail truck and slow crawler. The 9 km/h top speed is exactly a comfortable walking pace. You can stroll right beside it without having to constantly jog to catch up.
I drove it through dirt paths, climbed over small rocks, and pushed through tall grass. The 50-meter remote control distance was more than enough—I never experienced a single signal drop-off, even when I let it wander far down the trail.
So, did it last 50 minutes? Yes, it actually did. Honestly, my thumbs got tired from driving before the battery died! Being able to just enjoy the trail for almost an hour without having to stop, open the body shell, and swap batteries is a total game-changer for the 1/18 scale experience.
The Secret Weapon: A 3-Speed Manual Transmission?!
Here is the part that genuinely shocked me. While I was driving, I got to play around with the motor setup. Most 1/18 crawlers just give you a standard single-speed motor, but JXC managed to pack a Three-speed Manual Transmission into this chassis!
This adds a whole new layer of scale realism and mechanical joy. Need to crawl over a tricky rock? Drop it into low gear for maximum torque and precision. Reached a flat dirt road? Shift up and cruise at that 9 km/h top speed. The mechanical feel of shifting gears on a rig this small makes you feel connected to the car in a way that most mini-crawlers just can’t offer.
Final Verdict: Is it worth it?
If you are looking for a violent, high-speed basher, look elsewhere. But if you are into scale realism, trail walks, slow crawling, and most importantly, uninterrupted drive time, the JXC LR1801 is an absolute steal.
Between the crazy 50-minute battery life and that awesome 3-speed transmission, JXC has built a rig that keeps the fun going long after other trucks have been packed away.
Have you guys tried out the LR1801 yet? If you were getting one, which of the four colors would you choose? Let me know in the comments below! Keep crawling, guys! 🌲🚙💨
